History
Board-certified dermatologist Craig Kraffert, MD, founded DermStore in 1999.
In 2012, DermStore expanded from distributing high-end and professional skin care and cosmetic products, to also including a variety of beauty brands.
DermStore opened its flagship store in Hermosa Beach, California, on March 19, 2012. The sole brick-and-mortar store carries an expansive retail selection of products found on DermStore.com, as well as a hair salon and a spa featuring treatments from brands such as Decleor, Eminence, Phytomer and Yonka.
In early 2013, Harry Josh Pro Tools--developed by hairstylist Harry Josh--launched with DermStore as the exclusive retailer.
On August 6, 2013, Target Corporation announced an agreement to acquire the DermStore Beauty Group. The acquisition positioned Target to expand its share of online beauty market and allowed them to further differentiate the company's offerings in this retail segment. Following the transaction closing, DermStore became a new, wholly owned subsidiary of Target, though it continues to operate as a separate entity under its online name, DermStore.com.

Brands
DermStore's product offering consists of brands with physician-strength formulas otherwise only available through a doctor's or surgeon's office, widely available drugstore brands, spa care lines, salon-grade brands, and difficult to find niche and specialty brands from around the world. DermStore carries over 750 brands including SkinCeuticals, Dermalogica, Yonka, Dr. Hauschka, and Clarisonic.
Criticisms
Complaints online state a deceptive checkout process. Consumers say messaging misleads them into adding supplemental products to the order with unauthorized charges.
